Today I am making crispy fried fish with a homemade lemon herb tartar sauce. This recipe is similar to a beer battered fish with out the beer.

2 to 3 lbs Cod Fish
salt and pepper to preference
1/2 cup all purpose flour for dredge
OIL for frying

1 3/4 cup (250 g) all purpose flour
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp lemon pepper
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
15 oz (450 ml) mineral water

LEMON HERB TARTAR SAUCE (I did not weigh ingredients)
1 1/2 cups mayo
1 to 2 TBSP sweet relish
juice of half of large lemon
1 TBSP lemon zest
2 TBSP fresh chives
1 TBSP fresh dill
1/2 to 1 tsp lemon pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder

Man, that really looked good made my mouth water. I really like cod I’ve been pan sautéing it and it flakes really nicely. I’ve never made battered fish I watched a few recipes and I noticed that you skipped the egg wash step? So from what I’ve seen you take the season fish and lightly coated with flour then dip it in the egg and flower it a second time in the seasoned flour. I can’t wait to try it either way. And you’re right Mama’s love makes all the difference!

Fish and chips if I got a good dish and chips, it is kind of my default dish. It is the crisp of the batter. The first thing is the presentation, if it comes to me and it, it is a nice golden batter, the back of my knife, a bit hollow, it is crispy and when I crunch thought it , I see the escape of stream, I smell the fish, I see the flake, flaky flesh.

Mike R says:

That looks…..so…..good…..😋😁👍🏼
