It is simple to make Japanese (short grain) rice on a stove. Soak the rice, let it drain, and cook on low heat for 12-13 minutes.

Don't EVER burn yourself for the sake of a video. Bless your heart it was so red and I felt so bad for you.
Do these same instructions still apply if long grain white rice is all I have in the house? I'm so anxious to try this right now LOL
How much in grams is 1 cup?
I'm usually too impatient so i skip rinsing and soaking, and just simmer it for 17min haha
Hi, i bough a japanese rice measuring cup from daiso, would the measurements be different then? how do i cook rice for two persons?
Hi! I can't wait to try this. How would the instructions change if I used short grain brown rice? With the water and cooking time?
How do you steam the rice? Do you just leave the pot covered while hot and leave for 10 mins?
so if you don't have a rice cooker and you use this method does the water have to be scalding? I know this video is old but I'm sorry about your hand! Also does the pot have to be ceramic or can you use a regular metal pot? One more question you don't drain the rice after you take it off the stove right? you just let it sit. You're going to think i'm silly but I honestly never thought about how to make sticky rice without a rice cooker before.
Hi Namiko san Hope your hand is Ok I enjoy the out takes
Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your recipe and this video…I have a question….Can I use this method for rice sushi? I don't have a rice cooker but I want to make sushi at home…Thanks
I grew up with my family making rice like this several times a week. Very few people in the UK cook rice like this – they tend to boil it in too much water and then strain it. I know which method I prefer! (Though most of that is because I use Japanese short grain rice rather than long grain rice – the taste is so different.)
Thanks for this. Followed your instructions and my rice came out perfect!!
Hope your hand is better. I have never soaked the rice before and that's probably why it rarely turns out right. Thanks for this video.
Your poor red hands! D:
Dedicated to your craft, methinks.
