If you’ve ever been on a bullet train in Japan, you’ve probably fallen in love
with these little finger-sized sandwiches that you can buy at the train station
before you get on board.
‘Katsusando’ (カツサンド) is short for “cutlet sandwich” and it’s a pork cutlet covered with tonkatsu sauce between two slices of thick, Japanese-style white bread. It sounds simple (and it is), but that’s the beauty of it.

hello sir, when will u come back?
it always gives me the heebie jeebies when non-japanese people try to make japanese food
Hot katsu sando is not incredibly rare in Japan though, but you won't find one in a bakery, sandwich shop, or in-train trolleys. You have a much better chance in steakhouses or curry restaurants, but the problem is, you almost never order katsu sando in premises like that. If anyone's interested in Kyoto for example, try Tonkatsu Shimizu or Hafuu.
Where did you go Adam?!
Try some bread with your pork
