A new Mayo Clinic study shows low-carbohydrate diets are slightly more effective for weight loss than low-fat diets.
“Our review found those following the low-carbohydrate diet lost about 2.5 to 5 pounds more than those following comparison diets, which usually were calorie-restricted and or low-fat,” says Dr. Heather Fields, an internal medicine physician at Mayo Clinic and the study’s lead author.
Dr. Fields says, although no short-term negative health consequences were noted, the research did not examine the long-term implications of a low-carb diet.
In this Mayo Clinic Minute, Dr. Fields further explains the study’s findings and notes important cautions that come with a diet low in carbohydrates. Jeff Olsen reports.

Of course, you still need to have your veggies. Low carb doesn't have to be NO carb….
I weally weally believe the squeaky-voiced & under-educated MD. After all, they're not even close to being trained as scientists but are only taught to be narcissistic.
This girl just went to school and took her tests and didn't ask any questions… complete robot.. this is what our universities produce.
You people are lucky you eat this much i just eat bread cuz me mum does not let me eat a balanced meal 😂😂😂😁
I don’t take health advice from people who profit from people being sick (the medical industry).
I'm so confused about how to eat
the most effective diet for me was not a diet at all. My diet is I can eat whatever I want but when I hit 1200 calories I have to stop. Can’t have anymore food for the rest of the day. I only eat breakfast and supper at 4-4:30 and 2 small snacks in between. It is so easy. I’ve dropped upwards of 5lb in a week healthily. fasting is good for you and I spend about 16-17 hours in a fasting state every day and I only eat between 10 AM and 5. 7 hours. The rest of the time I am fasting.
Bacon is good for you. It is whole food.
This is Karen!!
Don’t believe anything anyone says about a diet before they at least properly define the diet. More often than not, the low carb diet comparisons are generally using a lower high carb diet, not anywhere near what low carbers consider low carb: < 10%
For a second i did not realize that the video ended while reading some comments
Keto is mainly for people with cancer, but why not trying normally
Who else went straight to the comments to see if this works?
I have tried each and every snapchat hack tool and only Snapchat Hax0r helped me. Search for it on google.
I make my own bacon it’s easy it’s cheap and taste better than the store bacon. Five or six days of curing and then I smoke it to 155°. Pancetta is similar to bacon just requires different spices and longer curing.
Mayo clinic- moneybag doctors controlled by food/ pharma lobbed!
Insulin is the monster. What causes insulin spikes. ?
1. Grains..oatmeal, cereal, bread
2. Fruit. Bananas, apples, and honey
3. Pastas…spaghetti, noodles, etc.
Stick to meats and vegetables to keep fat-storing insulin levels low.
I was about to dislike, But she is correct, you can eat carbs but only get your carbs from non GMO foods like vegetables and less from grains.
Low carb life!! My AC 1 levels normal for 12 months!
But, I have gallstones…I don't really get to choose what to eat anymore that has fat in it…if I do eat anything with too much fat I will have an attack in my upper abdomen.
So I must follow a low fat diet to relieve stress on my gallbladder.
Low fat diet has gotten me nowhere, except overweight. Low carb diet (healthy fat) with intermittent fasting has been a game changer for me. Only carbs I eat are veggies, 1 low GCI fruit per day, and oatmeal every other day with flax seed and cinnamon. Not going back to the bullshit spouted from the "medical community".
Nobody ever mentions the strategy to cycle both. Best of both worlds. Same long-time effect. Why are people so attached to a dietary strategy as if it were a social identity is beyond my reason.
Low carb is Def better. We eat too many carbs, it's needed but not that much really.
Bad advice from the Mayo Clinic
