Creamed spinach used to be one of my and my dad’s favorite holiday side dishes, but it was so full of dairy cream and cheese that I was always left feeling heavy. This version uses a garlic cashew cream sauce, and your guests will never know it’s free of dairy.

I made this today and it was so easy and so good. Have a bunch left over and I think I'll put it on Zoodles tomorrow like Alfredo sauce. Love it!

Chuck Brogan says:

It's not dairy free if you are using Ghee!

LottaTroublemaker says:

But this is NOT dairy free at all! You are using ghee, which of course is dairy! If this is to be dairy free and vegan, you have to drop using ghee. I suggest you use dairy free margarine instead, there are super good options now, dairy is not needed!

Benjamin Malave says:

Ghee is dairy.

Stephanie AZ says:

Wow, after watching your video i decided to make this for thanksgiving. I so missed creamy stuff and made it tonight in advance and wow how yummy. This will absolutely will be a regular. Thanks! On to your garlic cauli mash now.

Stephen O'Meara says:

Is there a good nut alternative to cashews for this sauce that anyone has tried that will give a creamy consistency? We have cashew allergies in our family.

Diane Davidson says:

Why did you throw all that nutrition out? Cook spinach in a little water, with lid, and don't pour the goodness down the drain.

Joann Austin says:

How important is the lemon? I also cannot have lemon.

Can you clarify your comment on ghee about the having the milk solids removed? Does it still have the whey?

Sandra King says:

are you supposed to put boiling water on the cashews for every recipe that calls for soaking cashews before hand?

Claire Moniz says:

looks so good!~

Nadia Nahdi says:

Hi Danielle! Loving your blogs and videos all the way from Saudi Arabia!
Can I substitute the cashews with a mix of almonds and macadamia?
I can have cashews as they make me bloat :-"(

Jennifer Clements says:

Oh no! :( I can't eat cashews :( can I use another nut instead?

Katy Creekmore says:

Bree Light says:

So I just made this with a double bath of the sauce and a small portion of the spinach (just enough for me and my husband for lunch tomorrow) and threw some pre-made pesto into the other half with some zoodles and peas for a pesto-alfredo. OMG I'm never making a sauce again without that being the base. I've missed cheesy thick sauces like alfredo for so long having Crohn's and this is seriously the best base for that. Thank you so much!!! The creamed spinach was awesome too!

Chris Dixon says:

Thank you Danielle for the video I will try this recipie for sure and congrats on the new addition ❀
